No Sew Clothing

Focusing my research on sustainable manufacturing techniques and processes, I was really interested in seeing if manufacturing techniques that are common and accessible could be applied to clothing. After developing a mold-resistant bioplastic recipe that can be cooked up with a simple pan and a hot plate, I moved on to accessible molding and draping techniques. This experiment is made from a polyester sweater. The bioplastic coating was poured onto the silhouette while it was being draped onto a mannequin to hold its shape and unique forms. It held extremely well at all scales from the minute drapes on the bodice to the large flare at the hips. It shows great potential of this material’s transformations.
